Books I like: Virginia Wolf by Kyo Maclear and Isabelle Arsenault
I love the illustrations of Isabelle Arsenault. They're dreamy, light, full of colour. I already had another book illustrated by her, Migrant, which I absolutely loved.
Her newest book, Virginia Wolf, is an absolute must-have too. The colours are so lively and it's like the illustrations are dancing on the words. The handwritten text suits the pages perfectly.

Books I like: Baby's in Black by Arne Bellstorf
As an illustrator I mostly like books with pretty pictures. I read a lot of books and also different sorts of books. Like literature, chicklit, biographies, picture books, children's books and I absolutely love graphic novels. In my opinion there aren't better books for adults.
When I was surfing on the web I found a stunning picture. I clicked on it and I was led to the website of Arne Bellstorf, a cartoonist, graphic designer, writer and editor, living in Hamburg (Germany). I found out that the picture was from his book Baby's in Black, a graphic novel about the relationship of photographer Astrid Kirchherr and the fifth Beatle Stuart Sutcliffe.
I love The Beatles. Combined with a graphic novel is pretty much perfect.
I haven't finished reading it completely but all I can say so far: it's bloody brilliant. The drawings are fitting perfectly with the look and feel of the sixties and I love pencil work. Bellstorf creates beautiful scenes and the pace of the book is really nice.

Books I like: Bulle und Pelle by Kilian Leypold and Ina Hattenhauer
Don't you just love packages in the mail? I sure do! Especially when they contain fun stuff, like the package you see below. I got it from my friend Ina Hattenhauer, a very talented illustrator from Germany.
In the big envelope there was an advent calendar with lovely illustrations from different artists and a copy of 'Bulle und Pelle', a book Ina illustrated.
'Bulle und Pelle' is about Bulle, a young boy and his bunny Pelle. One day Pelle dies. So Bulle goes looking for Pelle but he's nowhere to be found. Untill Bulle meets a stranger who gives him some insight about where Pelle can be found.
The story is very endearing. I think it's a wonderful book to give to young children who are dealing with the loss of a loved one. Ina's illustration are lovely. Very simple lines but spot on. The translate the feeling throughout the book into images very well.
Unfortunately the book is only available in German but if you speak the language a little it's not very difficult to read. I think the illustrations are beautiful enough the buy the book anyhow though! :D
Ina just informed me that the book is being translated into Danish and Korean too!

Books I like: Dillweed's Revenge by Florence Parry Heide and Carson Ellis
I found Carson Ellis' work a while ago and immediately I fell in love with it. I couldn't resist to buy a book illustrated by her and chose 'Dillweed's Revenge', a slightly dark story.
